UPDATE: In November of 2022, Tim lost his battle with NPC. His family continues to advocate for more research on rare diseases and the search for a cure. Rest in peace, Tim.
In June of 2019, I designed a t-shirt as a fundraiser for a dear family friend. Tim Padden is my best friend’s brother and we grew up in the same neighborhood. He was diagnosed with Niemann-Pick Disease Type C (NPC). NPC is a very rare, progressive and terminal genetic disease that affects Tim’s ability to metabolize cholesterol and other lipids within a cell. Sadly, Tim’s condition worsens by the day. Despite this, he and his family stays hopeful and supports the research being done to fight rare diseases like Tim’s. That’s where “Just Hope” originated.
Using the fundraising platform Bonfire, we were able to offer t-shirts and sweatshirts for prices we set. With the help of Tim’s sister, Emily, we spread the word and coordinated a digital marketing campaign. We sold 180 shirts and raised nearly $1,600 for Tim’s family to use towards his care.
In addition to designing the “Just Hope” apparel mark, below are some examples of marketing materials I created to promote the fundraiser.
